Retardation of cement setting times - by addition of polyphenols

The setting of cements, both clinker based and furnace slag based, increases by the addition of 0.01-1.00, pref. 0.05-0.5%, of polyphenols extracted from catechnic tannins. The additions also increase the fluidity and decrease hardening time of mortars and concretes in which the cements are employed.
