A shifting device ( 1 ), for the transmission of shifting commands to a vehicle gearbox includes a housing ( 2 ) and/or a frame, a selector lever ( 4 ), transmitting shift commands to the gearbox. A knob ( 3 ) provides a grip for the hand of the vehicle driver. An adapter ( 7 ) is provided for the knob ( 3 ) with an integrated switch ( 5 a). The adapter is fitted to the selector lever ( 4 ) and forms a connection point between the selector lever ( 4 ) and the knob ( 3 ). The shifting device ( 1 ) is provided for assembly in a motor vehicle and, preferably after fitting of the shifting device ( 1 ), a shifting gate is placed over the selector lever ( 4 ).
