PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve video image performance while solving a problem of impulse drive. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display apparatus which performs time division gradation drive by distributing the luminance of one frame period into two sub-frame periods is configured so that the rise time Tr of luminance of a liquid crystal display element is longer than a fall time Tf and longer than a half of the length ST of the sub-frame period. Consequently, a peak of the luminance is concentrated in the termination or latter half of the sub-frame period to improve a degree of impulse of a response waveform and to reduce image blurs.
