A permanent mould has a cooling void at a predetermined distance from the surface. The void wall has a thick coating of non-frangible metal, applied using a high-temperature high-pressure diffusion process. A fissure-prevention modification is incorporated in those parts of the form wall where empirical experience indicates fissures may develop. The strength of the union between the metal coating and form is selectively reduced in those areas at risk from fracture.
|
