1311965 Axle box guides MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG AG ZWEIGNIEDERLASSUNG NURNBERG 19 March 1970 [19 March 1969] 13183/70 Heading B7L A vehicle frame member or bogie frame for a rail vehicle has an axle box which is pivotally connected to the vehicle frame member or bogie frame at a pivot below the axle box so as to allow oscillatory arcuate motion of the axle box, and hence the wheels and axles carried thereby, about an axis parallel with, and below, the longitudinal axis of the axle. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, an axle box support member 5 supports a bogie frame 1 via a resilient suspension in the form of compression springs 13 and is connected to the frame 1 by means of a link 17. The opposite ends of link 17 are connected to the bogie frame 1 and support member 5 respectively by means of pivots 171. Guide elements 14 having bores 16 allow vertical movement of the axle boxes 3 and their associated guide rods 15 while restraining horizontal movement. In a further embodiment, described with reference to Fig. 3, the beam 5 is replaced by a balance lever 6 associated with each axle box 3 and which is pivoted at approximately its mid point 4 to its associated axle box 3. Each lever 6 has at each end a conically shaped member 18 fitted with spring means in the form of a pair of rubber springs 19 and the springs 19 are connected to the bogie 1 via support members 20. A still further embodiment, described with reference to Fig. 4, has an axle box support member in the form of a lever 11 pivotably mounted substantially at its centre on the axle box 3 by means of a pivot 4 directly below the axle box 3. The lever 11 extends longitudinally of the bogie frame 1, one end of the lever 11 being pivotably connected by pivot 34 to the bogie frame 1, and the other end 111 of the lever 11 being provided with a spring 27 acting as a spring suspension means between the lever end 111 and the end 11 of the bogie frame 1 overhanging the axle box 3. Limiting means comprising rod 15 and bore 16, similar to that of Figs. 2 and 3, are provided. A fourth embodiment described with reference to Fig. 9 has a single spring 32 between the axle box 3 and the bogie 1. A leaf spring link is pivotably connected at one end to the axle box 3 and at the other end to the bogie 1.
