Provided is a method for obtaining a coated potato piece comprising treating a cut potato piece with a composition comprising guar gum, limestone and fir bark, wherein direct application of said composition produces a coated potato piece. Further provided is a method including additionally zein and corresponding seed compositions. Also provided are said methods and compositions with specified percentages of the components.
