LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE, PROJECTOR OPTICAL SYSTEM, AND PROJECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device which outputs a green beam and which is downsized, a projector optical system, and a projector.

SOLUTION: The light source device M1 is equipped with a semiconductor laser element 2 to output an infrared laser beam and a polarization direction inverting part 4 with an optical waveguide 5 formed thereon. The semiconductor laser element 2 is capable of direct modulation. The infrared laser beam output from the semiconductor laser element 2 is supplied to the optical waveguide 5 of the polarization direction inverting part 4. Because the polarization direction inverting part 4 is a quasi-phase matching wavelength conversion element, it converts the infrared laser beam into the second harmonic, i.e. the green beam. Also the green beam is output in accordance with intensity and modulation speed of the infrared laser beam. Consequently exterior modulator etc. is made unnecessary and the light source device is downsized.
