The device has a sensor (1) i.e. infrared sensor, sensing a component (2) or assemblies (3, 4) of a rotary printing press in a contactless manner. A sensor surface or a protection cover provided in front of the sensor surface is protected from contamination by an electrostatic field. The sensor is surrounded with the sensor surface or the protective cover provided in front of the sensor surface by a ring electrode. The sensor includes the sensor surface or the protective cover provided in front of the sensor surface that is arranged in a sleeve. An independent claim is also included for a procedure for protecting a device for collecting machine data and/or for monitoring of machine functions of a rotary printing press.
