<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thrust ball bearing for a compressor capable of preventing a retainer from being deteriorated in strength owing to a refrigerant gas or a lubricating oil, capable of maintaining the lubricity between the retainer and the compressor for the long term, and capable of miniaturizing. <P>SOLUTION: The thrust ball bearing 2 supporting a shaft 1 of the reciprocating compressor comprises a pair of opposed thrust plates 3, 4, a plurality of rolling bodies 6 rotatably disposed between the thrust plates 3, 4, and the retainer 5 to support the rolling bodies 6, having a guide surface 5a for being rotatably externally fitted to the shaft 1.
