PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a resin composition which exhibits improved transferability in the molding, is hardly colored even during the detention at a high temperature, and can be easily molded. SOLUTION: The above favorable characteristics are achieved when norbornene or tetracyclododecene, which has been prepared by thermally reacting (a) ethylene, (b) high-purity cyclopentadiene or dicyclopentadiene having a purity higher than 95 wt.%, and optionally (c) norbornene, is used within 7 days after the generation of norbornene or tetracyclododecene.
