PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction stir welding apparatus capable of correctly holding a rotating body around the center axis of rotation, protecting a bearing and the rotating body, and preventing solidification cracking of a welded part. SOLUTION: The friction stir welding apparatus includes a stand 14 for butting and fixing members 15, 16 to be welded to each other, and a probe 52 provided on a fore end of a rotating body 13 and brought into contact with the members 15, 16. The stand 14 has a first cooling means for keeping a welding line 17 at a predetermined temperature. A tool head 12 for driving the rotating body 13 is provided on a rear stage of the rotating body 13. The tool head 12 is provided on a traveling body 11 which is movable in the three-dimensional direction, and has a second cooling means 18 for cooling the tool head 12. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
