INTER-LAYER PREDICTION METHOD FOR VIDEO SIGNAL

An inter-layer prediction method for a video signal is provided to check a type of a macro block in a picture, apply a prediction method to a picture of a lower layer to configure a virtual picture, upsample the virtual picture, and apply inter-layer motion prediction to a picture of an upper layer by using the upsampled virtual picture, thereby configuring an image of a picture for motion prediction to be similar to an original image when one of both layers is a video signal source of an interlaced scanning method to improve a data coding rate. An inter-layer prediction method for a video signal comprises the following steps of: checking a type of a picture of a lower layer and a picture of an upper layer and a type of a block in a picture; applying a prediction method of a single field macro block to a pair of frame macro blocks to the picture of the lower layer to configure a virtual picture with the same vertical/horizontal ratio as the picture of the upper layer; upsampling the virtual picture; and applying inter-layer motion prediction to the picture of the upper layer by using the upsampled virtual picture.
