PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device for enhancing write performance and read performance, to increase density and storage capacity by accurately controlling flying height of a head, in consideration of a problem caused by a magnetic disk, that is, fluctuation of magnetic characteristics. SOLUTION: The flying height of the head is controlled by obtaining a control value corresponding to the position for writing or reading from a storing part storing the control value of a flying height control means corresponding to magnetic characteristics of a magnetic storage medium by a unit for correcting the flying height of the magnetic storage medium to control the flying height control means. Thereby, write performance and read performance can be enhanced by accurately controlling the flying height of the head in consideration of the magnetic characteristics of the magnetic storage medium, so that density and storage capacity can be increased.
