<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which has less optical defects and is used to display an image which similarly color-balanced well in observation from the front and observation from an oblique direction and is superior in resistance to high temperature and high humidity, weatherabilty, and handleability and has a sufficient surface hardness. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element includes a transparent substrate which contains a thermoplastic resin and has an UV absorbent, distributed partially in a center part in a perpendicular direction and has an average thickness smaller than 100 μm, and a selective reflection band or a selective absorption band formed on the transparent substrate and satisfies an expression (1) (T<SB>B,60</SB>/T<SB>B,N</SB>)>(T<SB>G,60</SB>/T<SB>G,N</SB>)≈ (T<SB>R,60</SB>/T<SB>R,N</SB>), wherein T<SB>B,N</SB>is the transmittance at 440 nm wavelength of light from the front; T<SB>B,60</SB>is the average value of transmittances at 440 nm wavelength of light from a direction of 60° polar angle; T<SB>G,N</SB>is the transmittance at 530 nm wavelength of light from the front; T<SB>G,60</SB>is the average value of transmittances at 530 nm wavelength of light from the direction of 60° polar angle; T<SB>R,N</SB>is the transmittance at 620 nm wavelength of light from the front; and transmittance at 440 nm wavelength of light from the front; and T<SB>R,60</SB>is the average value of transmittances at 620 nm wavelength of light from the direction of 60° polar angle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
