The system has two microphones (3) and two loudspeakers (4) arranged at a boundary surface of an interior in a vehicle. Each microphone or a microphone unit comprising microphones is assigned to loudspeakers to form a compact electro-acoustic unit (5) with the loudspeakers, and includes an electronic communication path to another electro-acoustic unit. The microphones/microphone unit includes directional characteristics with bipolar drains, and is arranged within the unit (5), such that the spatially adjacent loudspeaker and acoustic radiation are provided in a region of the drains. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a communication system.
