PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for a shell mold capable of producing a mold free from the generation of stimulative gas such as formaldehyde upon its use and having satisfactory mechanical strength, and to provide resin-coated sand for a shell mold using the same. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a resin composition for a shell mold comprising a phenol aralkyl resin and a novolac type epoxy resin. Regarding the content of the novolac type epoxy resin, the epoxy group in the novolac type epoxy resin is 0.2 to 1.4 equivalence to 1.0 equivalence of the hydroxy group in the phenol aralkyl resin. Also disclosed is resin-coated sand for a shell mold obtained by kneading the resin composition for a shell mold together with a refractory granular material. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
