PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the improvement in yield of an image display device and the reduction in the manufacturing cost by providing a defect correction method of the image display device, which is capable of satisfactorily correcting not only defects of pixel electrodes (switching devices) but also bright spots due to the existence of foreign matters or the like in a liquid crystal part, without damaging the image display device. SOLUTION: A defective pixel electrode 6a or a prescribed position of a transparent member 4 corresponding to a foreign matter 7 is irradiated with a femtosecond laser beam 11 whose pulse width is one to several thousand femtoseconds to control the transmittance of the prescribed position of the transparent member 4, whereby a defective pixel is corrected.
