PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the continuous production of a diaryl carbonate having high safety by using a reactor free from mobile parts. SOLUTION: A diaryl carbonate is continuously produced by supplying an aromatic hydroxy compound and a halogenated carbonyl to a reactor and reacting the compounds. In the above process, a reaction column is used as the reactor and the flow rate G [m<SP>3</SP>/sec] of the halogenated carbonyl supplied to the reaction column is set to satisfy the formula 0.01≤G/A≤0.10 [m/sec], wherein A [m<SP>2</SP>] is the horizontal inner cross-sectional area of the reaction column.
