PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a resorcin-based diester compound directly from dicarboxylic acid and resorcin, without the use of a reaction route through carboxylic chloride. SOLUTION: The method for producing the resorcin-based diester compound represented by formula (2) (wherein R is a 1-16C divalent aliphatic group or divalent aromatic group) is characterized by subjecting resorcin to the dehydration condensation with a dicarboxylic acid shown by formula (1) (wherein R is the same as above) at 120-220°C in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst.
