PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and accurately detect whether or not electric leakage is present in an electric power consumer by a simple method. SOLUTION: In this electric leakage detection method, it is determined whether or not electric leakage is present in an electric power consumer such as a house based on a voltage applied to a grounding wire 7 connecting the secondary side of a transformer 4 for distribution and a ground, the power consumer supplied with electric power via an incoming line 6 connected to the secondary side of the transformer 4. A variable resistor R1 is serially connected between grounding wires 7 which is previously bisected and it is determined whether or not electric leakage is present in the power consumer based on the manner of a change in a voltage applied to both ends of the variable resistor R1 when changing the resistance value of the variable resistor R1.
