The invention relates to activated mineral scale or flake-like filler for composite materials (platelike) fillers and can be used for producing different composite materials. The inventive mineral filler of a basalt group (scale, flake-like) is obtained by melting a pre-ground and pre-heated to a temperature of 250-900°C initial mineral, by forming solid particles from a melt, the viscosity of which ranges from 30 to 100 poises, and by exposing the thus obtained particles to thermochemical and mechanical treatment in air for 5-30 min which could be optionally associated with a simultaneous air blasting process. Melting is carried out at a temperature of 1250-1500°C, forming being carried out by dispersing a thin layer of melt or by crushing a melt jet by means of a cooling air flow.
