<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a motor with high efficiency by controlling the motor so as to minimize the total loss of an iron loss and a copper loss of the motor. <P>SOLUTION: In the motor controller, an iron loss computing unit 56 and a copper loss computing unit 57 compute an iron loss Pi and a copper loss Pc of the motor 15 respectively. A summer 59 sums the iron loss Pi and the copper loss Pc to output the total loss Pall of the motor 15, while a delay unit 60 delays the total loss Pall by only one control cycle. A subtractor 61 subtracts the total loss Pall0 computed at the previous cycle from the total loss Pall computed at the present control cycle, while a PI controller 62 performs proportional integration computation, based on a change Δ Pall and a change code of the previous command d-shaft current Idrefpre to output the command d-shaft current Idrefpre.
