PURPOSE:To obtain a battery having high energy density and excellent charge- discharge performance by using a porous carbon composite sheet comprising carbon fibers and a carbon matrix as an electrode material. CONSTITUTION:A porous carbon composite sheet having conductivity and comprising carbon fibers and a carbon matrix is used as an electrode material. This electrode material is obtained, for example, in such a way that a porous composite sheet obtained by the impregnation of phenol resin is carbonized in a nonoxidation atmosphere at 500-3000 deg.C to obtain a porous carbon sheet, then silica particles having a particle size of 1mum or less are stuck onto the carbon sheet.
