The method and the device are used to engrave relief inscriptions and graphic images on metal caps, aluminium caps in particular. They make it possible to efficiently remove the metal chips and polymer dust from the outer surface of the metal cap without visibly changing, scratching or destroying the surface of the outer decorative polymer layer. The method consists of the following operations: shallow rotational stamping of relief inscriptions and graphic images on the outer surface of the cap covered with a polymer layer, shaving of the inscriptions and images, optionally subjecting the cap to roller plastic deformation, placing of a polymer packing block, and vacuum removing the metal chips and polymer dust. Under the invention, an operation is provided also for final mechanical removal of the metal chips and polymer dust, which consists in rotating the cap around its central axis and pressing to its outer surface the chips are to be removed from a rotating pulley with a textile working surface having a structure and thickness suitable for catching the metal chips from the cap surface. The cap and the pulley rotate with different peripheral speeds, the pulley peripheral speed being greater than that of the cap and having a value making it possible to throw away the chips caught on the textile working surface of the pulley under the influence of the inertial forces. Preferably, the pulley textile cloth represents non-woven textile with a thickness of over 5 mm and areal mass of 180 to 500 g/m2, which is produced on the basis of adhesively bound long polyethylene terephthalate fibers. In an embodiment, the pulley textile cloth represents non-woven textile with tufts of fibers in its structure, which is produced by a ôtuftingö process. A device is provided also for carrying out the method.
