A method for implementing and controlling a 3-D avatar responding to external commands in a mobile terminal is provided to supply a new type of user interface to users by implementing a 3-D GUI(Graphic User Interface) and a 3-D avatar through software without using a special graphic accelerating chip. In order to deliver an external command to which a 3-D avatar in the second mobile terminal can react, the user of the first mobile terminal selects an emotion or action command and transmits it to the second mobile terminal through an SMS message(S202). Receiving the SMS message, the second mobile terminal drives a 3-D software graphic engine(S203). The 3-D software graphic engine parses the delivered command contained the SMS message(S204). The 3-D software graphic engine compares the present state of the 3-D avatar with a parsed result(S205). In case the parsed result is different from the present state of the 3-D avatar, the 3-D software graphic engine preferentially reflects the external command so that the 3-D avatar can act or express an emotion according to the external command(S207).
