PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the selection of a jump target by moving a cursor for specifying a word in accordance with a user operation. SOLUTION: An electronic dictionary 1 as a type of information display device comprises a flash ROM 80 for storing a plurality of dictionary DBs 84, a CPU 20 for searching any dictionary DB 84 for explanatory information corresponding to a specified entry, a display part 40 for displaying the explanatory information retrieved, and an input part 30 for specifying a word in the displayed explanatory information as a jump target word. The CPU 20 searches any dictionary DB 84 for explanatory information on an entry corresponding to the jump target word, and the display part 40 displays the explanatory information. A specifiable language type storage table 86 stores the language type of character strings specifiable as the jump target word for each dictionary DB 84, and the CPU 20 displays a cursor in the displayed explanatory information, and moves the cursor over character strings belonging to the language type associated with the dictionary DB 84 from which the explanatory information has been retrieved out of character strings of language types in the explanatory information.
