A polymer light emitting diode including a water soluble polymer layer containing a cation and a method for preparing the same are provided to prepare a multi-layer structure through wet coating by preventing mixture between thin layers. A polymer light emitting diode includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a light emitting layer. The light emitting layer is interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The polymer light emitting diode further includes a water soluble polymer layer containing a cation. The water soluble polymer layer is formed at an upper portion of the light emitting layer through wet coating and contains water soluble polyurethane resin. The water soluble polyurethane resin is polyurethane-polyurea, polyurethane-polyacrylate, or a mixture thereof.
