PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain unified reproduction of colors according to the color reproduction capability of an output device, when input image data are to be output by an arbitrary output device. SOLUTION: An output device characteristics storage part 220 stores color reproduction region information, indicating the range where an image output device can reproduce colors; a color reproduction target information storing part 210 stores a plurality of virtual color reproduction region information and target color data corresponding to each color reproduction region; and a color reproduction region selecting part 230 selects a color reproduction region similar to the color reproduction region of the image output device from among the plurality of virtual color reproduction regions. A first color conversion part 240 performs compressed mapping into a virtual color reproduction range, by referring to the selected color reproduction region information. After compressed mapping into the color reproduction range of an actual printer in a compression part 250 is carried out, a second color conversion part 260 converts this into a control signal for printers.
