PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection control device for an internal combustion engine, enabling to keep combustion in a good condition when fuel is injected to prevent preignition. SOLUTION: Into a combustion chamber of the engine, fuel is injected by a fuel injection valve. The electronic control device controls the amount of fuel to be injected by the fuel injection valve, as required in accordance with the operated condition of the engine. When the occurrence of preignition in the combustion chamber at starting is estimated, the electronic control device controls the fuel to be injected by the fuel injection valve before cranking. When the fuel is injected to prevent the preignition (S1:YES), it controls the amount of fuel to be injected by the fuel injection valve, a predetermined amount less than required at normal starting (S2).
