PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten latency for waiting for the start of an external device (digital broadcast signal processor) while minimizing useless power consumption of the external device in starting the external device requiring a long time in transition from a standby mode to an active mode from a television receiver side and displaying output vide of the external device on a video display part of the television receiver. SOLUTION: When the television receiver detects a power-ON operation, the television receiver transmits a command for transit a conducting state of a video recording and reproducing device Y from a standby state to an intermediate state (transition time to active state is shorter than standby state) (S102), and the video recording and reproducing device Y transits to the intermediate state in accordance with the command (S202). When a video recording/reproducing relevant operation is thereafter performed in the television receiver X side, an active state transition instruction command is transmitted to the video recording and reproducing device Y (S105), and if a video recording/reproduction relevant operation is not performed within a prescribed time, a standby state transition instruction command is transmitted to the video recording/reproducing device Y (S112).
