PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a spot welding robot itself to judge whether one cycle welding stage is normally completed or not. SOLUTION: In the control method for a spot welding robot 1 where a welding machine body 2 provided with moving means 22, 23 is moved to a prescribed part, and thereafter, energizing is caused, so as to perform spot welding per car kind, the robot 1 comprises: a count means 31 where welding completion information on the welding machine body 2 is inputted, and welding spot number is counted; a welding operation completion judgement means 32 where whether one cycle welding spot number is completed or not is judged; and a proper welding completion judgement means 33 where whether the predetermined one cycle spot welding stage number and the welding spot number counted by the count means 31 are coincident or not is judged, the spot number upon the completion of the one cycle welding stage at which the welding spot number is counted by the count means 31 and predetermined one cycle welding stage normal value are compared by a proper welding completion judgement means, and whether it is normally completed or not is judged.
