PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller and a control method capable of reducing load applied to a clutch and improving productivity when cutting a material into a specified cut length in a forming line. SOLUTION: Continuous operation is carried out instead of intermittent operation, when the material is cut into a short length using a pressing machine 3. More particulary, a central control means 441 outputs a clutch instruction signal for keeping a clutch 32 ON for continuously making a plurality of cuts instead of outputting a clutch instruction signal for turning ON/OFF the clutch 32 for every cutting operation. That is, the central control means 441 drives a carrier 2 so as to follow the material 10 and causes the pressing machine 3 to continuously work at pressing speed synchronous with the speed of the material 10.
