PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which can make its life longer by reducing the difference when using a long heater or a short heater. SOLUTION: This image forming device starts to control the fixing unit temperature when instructed to print, and checks whether or not the recording sheet is wider than the short heater. If wider, it maintains the fixing temperature by using the long heater for the large paper width (Steps 101-105). If smaller, when the difference is small between the on/off frequency Na of the long heater and the on/off frequency Nb of the short heater in the past, it maintains the fixing temperature by using the short heater for the small paper width (Steps 108-115). When the frequency Na is considerably smaller than the frequency Nb, it maintains the fixing temperature by using the long heater for the large paper width after turning on the flag for increasing the interval between the supplied sheets (Step 110).
