I.c. engine cam-in-block valve train with valves operated by individual pushrods actuated by a common cam follower

A multiple cylinder internal combustion engine 10, eg a vee engine with four valves per cylinder, has a valve train with a camshaft 12 disposed within an engine block 14 and cam followers 58, 58' pivotally mounted on a fixed shaft parallel to the camshaft 12. Each cam follower 58, 58' has a roller 64, 64' in contact with a cam lobe 70,70' and lifts two pushrods 56,56' to actuate gas exchange valves 28,28' via rocker arms 54,54'. For the right-hand cylinder of fig.1, the cam follower roller 64' is mounted in a housing 86' having a passage 61' to provide pressurized oil to a hydraulic lash adjuster 62' to adjust lash associated with the pair of pushrods 56'. Each valve thus has a dedicated lash adjuster in a common cam follower.
