<p>A process for producing esters of fatty acids and one or more polyhydric alcohols, e.g. glycerol, comprising the steps of: <SL> <LI>(a) providing a reaction mixture comprising free fatty acids (FFA) and one or more polyhydric alcohols, in which the molar ratio of the hydroxyl groups in said one or more polyhydric alcohols to the free fatty acids ranges from 1.5:1 to 6:1; <LI>(b) heating said reaction mixture to a temperature (approx. > 200{C) at which said free fatty acids react with said one or more polyhydric alcohols ; and <LI>(c) subjecting said reaction mixture to a flashing step generating a vapour stream and a flashing residue comprising said esters. </SL></p> |
