A device for confocal observation of a specimen comprises an objective, a rotatable mask 22 (e.g. a Nipkow disk) with openings 24 (e.g. pinholes) for generating an illumination pattern moving on the specimen (not shown), a plurality of focussing microoptics 34 (e.g. microlenses) corresponding to the openings 24 of the mask 22 in order to concentrate the illumination light by each of the microoptics into a respective one of the openings of the mask, and a beam splitter 26 for separating the illumination and image beams, wherein the beam splitter 26 is arranged in the optical path between the mask 22 and the arrangement of the microoptics 34, and wherein an optical arrangement (e.g. lenses 42 and 44 in figure 4 or lenses 42 with image inverter 50 in figure 5) is provided in the same optical path for generating an infinity space 40 in which the beam splitter 26 is located. The openings of the mask and the micro optics may be arranged fixed to each other (e.g. on the same disk). Alternatively, the microoptics may be focussing micromirrors, which each comprises one of the openings of the mask, and wherein a focussing macrooptics is provided directing the illumination light from the micromirrors onto the openings of the mask. |
