摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of readily producing the subject compound at an inexpensive production cost than conventional method without causing problems concerning discarding of waste catalyst, or the like by a specific method passing through β-isophorone and 4-oxoisophorone from isophorone. SOLUTION: Isophorone is reacted in the presence of an acid catalyst (preferably HY type zeolite) and then distilled to provide β-isophorone. The β- isophorone is oxidized with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of amorphous carbon (e.g. activated carbon) and a base (preferably pyridine) to provide 4-oxoisophorone. The 4-oxoisophorone is reacted with an acid anhydride (preferably acetic anhydride) in the presence of a solid acid catalyst (preferably a strongly acidic cation exchange resin) in a liquid phase to produce at least one among compounds of the formula [R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or an acyl]. Finally, a compound having an acyl group among compounds of the formula is hydrolyzed.
