PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the wear of an expensive super abrasive grain wheel and to shorten a working time required for a dresser by detecting the completion of a truing or dressing. SOLUTION: This rotary dresser comprises a current detection sensor 31 for detecting the current of a motor and a controller 10 having a current variation extraction circuit 32 for extracting the variation of the current and a motor drive circuit 30 for controlling the rotational speed of the motor. The motor drive circuit 30 so controls the rotational speed of a dressing stone 2 that the rotational speed Vr of a predetermined area r on the side of the dressing stone 2 is equal to the peripheral velocity V of the surface thereof in contact with a grinding wheel 1. The current variation extraction circuit 32 extracts the pulsation variation component I of the motor current detected by the current detection sensor 31 in synchronism with the rotating frequency of the grinding wheel 1 when the grinding wheel 1 is reciprocatingly moved in the predetermined area r on the side of the dressing stone 2.
