Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the cannabinoid active pharmaceutical ingredient, crystalline trans-(±)-&Dgr;-tetrahydrocannabinol, and formulations thereof are disclosed. The invention also relates to methods for treating or preventing a condition such as pain comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of crystalline trans-(±)-&Dgr;-tetrahydrocannabinol. In specific embodiments, the crystalline trans-(±)-&Dgr;-tetrahydrocannabinol administered according to the methods for treating or preventing a condition such as pain can have a purity of at least about 98% based on the total weight of cannabinoids. |
