PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing optical glass containing bismuth oxide which can suppress the phenomenon that a quartz glass crucible is crystallized when it is used for melting a raw material of the optical glass. SOLUTION: The method comprises manufacturing the optical glass containing a Bi<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>component in an amount of≥10 mass% based on the oxide basis by melting the raw material by using a quartz glass crucible, and is characterized in that≥0.1 mass% Rn<SB>2</SB>O components (wherein, Rn is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of Li, Na, K and Cs) is added into the raw material of the glass, with the proviso that the total amount of Na<SB>2</SB>O and K<SB>2</SB>O is >0%. The ratio of K<SB>2</SB>O and/or Na<SB>2</SB>O to the whole Rn<SB>2</SB>O components, made as 100 mass%, is≥40 mass%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
