PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently shorten the printing period of time when a serial printer utilizes a logical seeking function even if an isolated point is included in read image data. SOLUTION: In this image processing apparatus, an accumulated value is obtained by accumulating the number of printing pixels of an analysis object band for three bands including a processing object band from one end to the other end in order. The position when the accumulated value has exceeded a threshold value is set as a printing start reference point BSP. An accumulated value is obtained by accumulating the number of printing pixels of the analysis object band from the other end to the one end in order, and the position when the accumulated value has exceeded a threshold value is set as a printing end reference point BEP. Then, printing data is formed based on both reference points BSP and BEP. In this way, isolated points existing in a space from the one end of the band to a printing region, or in a space from the other end to the printing region can be grasped.
