An optical pickup actuator is provided to obtain high focusing sensitivity and reduce the size of a bobbin of the actuator by recessing the part of the bobbin, on which focusing coils having effective coil parts and ineffective coil parts are wound, so that the effective coil parts are longer than the ineffective coil parts. An optical pickup actuator comprises a base(30), and a bobbin(40). The base has outer yokes(31) having magnets(34) with a predetermined gap. The bobbin is installed with an objective lens(42) for focusing the light generated from the light source on a disk. The bobbin includes focusing coils(44) and tracking coils(46) moving the bobbin in a tracking direction and a focusing direction. The part of the bobbin, which is wound with the focusing coils, is recessed. The focusing coils have effective coil parts(44a) wound with a gap from the magnet, and ineffective coil parts(44b) wound in the perpendicular direction to the effective coil parts. The effective coil parts are parallel to the tracking direction of the bobbin.
