<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber polarizer which makes a polarization loss of a fast axis (Y axis) large while keeping a polarization loss of a slow axis (X axis) low and is compact in size compared with a conventional one, and also obtain a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: Stretched parts 2, 3 and 4 having small diameters, which are obtained by irradiating a part of a polarization-holding optical fiber with carbon dioxide gas laser of prescribed intensity and melting and stretching it, are formed in an optical fiber polarizer 1, and the stretching lengths of these stretched parts 2, 3 and 4 are all less than 5 mm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
