The device (2) has an application head (4) with a fluid applying channel connected with a fluid source and an exhaust port corresponding with the fluid applying channel. The application head is coupled with a drive device e.g. hydraulic actuator, for achieving a periodic translation movement. The application head is mounted on a linear guide in form of a linear rail (16). The drive device has a rotary eccentric (10) connected with the application head by a joint or a connecting rod (6). A discharge nozzle communicates with the fluid supply channel. An independent claim is also included for a method for applying a fluid on a substrate.
