A low-power driving apparatus and method are provided to control the brightness of a display screen dynamically according to surroundings and image contents in a limited power environment of a mobile device, thereby driving the mobile device at low power. A low-power driving apparatus(100) includes an illuminance detecting module(110), a driving power level determining module(120), a minimum recognition brightness operation module(130), a driving module(140), and a display module(150). The illuminance detecting module detects illuminance. The minimum recognition brightness operation module operates the minimum recognition brightness having nonlinear properties in correspondence to the detected illuminance. The driving power level determining module determines a power level based on the operated minimum recognition brightness. The driving module provides a light source for displaying an inputted image according to the determined driving power level.
