A method and an apparatus for inspecting a bill using an ultrasonic sensor are provided to improve an inspection accuracy by decreasing an effect of a reflection of an ultrasonic wave. An apparatus for inspecting a bill using an ultrasonic sensor includes a number measuring unit(20) and a controller(30). The number measuring unit irradiates an ultrasonic wave at a predetermined slope with respect to an input bill and measures the ultrasonic wave, which passes through the bill. The controller calculates the number of the bills from the measured value of the number measuring unit. The number measuring unit includes an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic sensor. A data storage unit(40) stores a setting value and the number of the bills. The setting value defines a range of the transparency value of ultrasonic corresponding to the number of the bills.
