摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of preventing display failure caused by an alignment layer in an in-plane switching liquid crystal device, performing high-quality display and having excellent reliability, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device includes a pair of substrates 10, 20 and a liquid crystal layer 50 containing a liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy between the substrates, wherein a pixel electrode (first electrode) 9 and a common electrode (second electrode) 19 are formed to induce an effect of an electric field in the plane direction of the substrates 10, 20 on the liquid crystal layer 50. The pixel electrode 9 and the common electrode 19 are formed so as to project from the substrate 10 toward the liquid crystal layer 50; and on the side wall faces 9s, 19s of the pixel electrode 9 and the common electrode 19, an initial alignment control means are formed to align the liquid crystal in the directions along the side wall faces 9s, 19s.
