PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing and purifying an acetal compound having floral flavor with sweetness, through suppressing offensive odor emitting in distilling the acetal compound at a high temperature under a high vacuum, and to provide a fragrance composition containing the acetal compound. SOLUTION: The method for purifying the acetal compound comprises a step of distilling a feedstock containing the acetal compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is H, methyl or ethyl; R<SP>2</SP>is n-propyl or i-propyl; R<SP>3</SP>is H, n-propyl or i-propyl) at 80-170°C in the presence of an antioxidant.
