Registers that accommodate cryptographic keys are equipped with additional bits for storing an error correction code and error correction logic is inserted between the registers and a cryptographic processing unit. Prior to cryptographic processing, the key is retrieved and the error correction code used to correct errors caused by deliberate manipulation of individual bits in the key, so that it is not apparent to an attacker whether the manipulation has caused the individual bits of the key to be altered. <IMAGE> |
