A refrigerator and a method for controlling the same are provided to increase product yield by storing operation information on the freezing compartment, the refrigerating compartment and the compressor so that the normality of the operation is easily checked. A refrigerator(10) comprises a control unit(200) for refrigerator operation, a transfer unit(290) connected to the control unit for refrigerator operation, a control unit(230) for compressor operation and a storage unit(250). The control unit for refrigerator operation collects information on the operation of a refrigerating compartment and a freezing compartment. The transfer unit outputs the information on the operation of the refrigerating compartment and the freezing compartment. The control unit for compressor operation collects information on the operation of a compressor(100). The control unit for compressor operation converts the information on the operation of the refrigerating compartment, the freezing compartment and the compressor into a single line packet of information. The storage unit stores the packet information in real time.
